Daturas are definite showstoppers! They form huge tubular or trumpet-shaped flowers that either face upwards or hang down (depending on variety). Many are quite fragrant. They can eventually become large shrubs or small trees and or can be contained in fairly small planters (ie 12-14"). As a tender perennial they need to be brought into a frost-free location for winter, or cuttings taken or started from seed each spring. Though quite toxic, if handled with care, ie wash hands after touching leaves, flowers, or seeds, they are fine.
The Double/Triple flowered Blackcurrant Whirl is perhaps the most stunning flower that I grow! It truly takes my breath away as I watch each layer unfurl. I have more customers tell me how wonderful the flower is, and I can just smile and say "I know" :>)

Definitely a cottage-garden staple, and one flower that most people are familiar with- often referred to as pinks, not because of the color, but because the edges of the flower are fringed or 'pinked'. Very often quite fragrant- My white ones (D. White Lady) are my most fragrant- the kind that you just take a big sniff of and sigh wonderfully! AHHH! They are fairly easy to start from seed. Here in the Pacific North-West most remain evergreen or evergrey, so they are a nice addition to containers.

Delphiniums are what many people think of when they picture a perennial border. I like this back of the border plant for the height it gives without taking up a lot of garden space. This species requires staking as rain and wind can easily topple the large clusters of blooms. Still quite worth the effort as it is a show stopper in all gardens where displayed.

This is a genus of summer flowering biennials and perennials. The common name Foxglove comes from "Folks Glove," the glove of the Good Folks or Fairy People who lived in the woodlands where the flowers grow. As the above implies, these plants do best in rich soil. For those of you who have problems with deer, this is a garden must have.
